  1. Fragrances have been used for centuries to influence mood. Esential oils were the first fragrant articles used to affect the mood of people but now perfume and potpourri oils are used more for this. They are used to provide fragrance only since essential oils are he only oils that have healing power.

Many businesses use fragrance to create a lighthearted or relaxed mood in customers in order to induce them to buy goods or products. I use fragrance in my retail store to create an effective business attitude. When a customer walks in the door his or her nose is delighted by the sweet aroma of the various fragrances that I offer this makes a good impression.

Color is added to fragrance to produce specific visual and emotional reactions. Perfumers will add color to match the desired effects of the ingredients of the fragrance. The overall effect is called the theme of the fragrance. Perfumes and colognes are marketed to certain types, or age groups of people. For example, the color blue may be added to match the mood that the perfumer seeks to create with the mix of scented ingredients in the perfume oil. Perfumes and colognes marketed to younger customers may have brighter colors, while those marketed to conservative people may beclear or lightly colored.

Studies have found that certain personalities prefer certain colors and hues of colors. Extroverted people with a can do personality prefer reds, orange, yellow, and green. These are also active colors which have a synergistic effect when they are used at certain times of the year. These colors are warm weather colors which are best in the summertime. They go with light, floral, mint, and citrus fragrances.

The perfumer may decide to go against the grain to produce a different effect or mood with the fragrance. Now if you want to create an energetic mood in your home or place of business then you should use energetic colors along with energetic fragrances. If you add music to the mix you can add energetic music. The citrus class of fragrances are good for this.

Introverted persons generally seem to prefer light pastel type colors. Persons who are extremely introverted may prefer dark deep colors and fragrances. Heavy fragrances are used for introverts with the heaviest being the oriental type fragrances. These are the fragrances which are best suited for nighttime or winter use. they are generally heavy or what I call cloying because their aroma tends to hang around for a very long period of time.

Once again remember that these are not hard fast rules but are general guidelines and depend on the situation and the temperament of the wearer and the audience of the wearer. When you want to create a quiet, peaceful mood use these colors along with the heavier fragrances. Personality, along with emotions are definitely the major influences of the fragrance that a person chooses to wear. The name of the fragrance is chosen in order to reflect its character which should appeal to a certain personality type. Other factors which influence the fragrance that a person will choose are lifestyle, emotions, events, habits, and seasons. These are some of the tips for choosing fragrances but there are more variables than we can list.
